BINDERCON

Ah, “ancient history.” What seems like a generation ago (but really less than a decade ago), Mitt Romney was running for president, and when asked about the women he’d invite to serve in his administration, he couldn’t name any and soon people had provided him with “binders full of women.” We supported the idea for a conference aimed at giving women in media and literary arts more employment opportunities. The organizers called it “Out Of The Binders,” or BinderCon.

The first BinderCon, hosted in October 2014, gathered over 500 writers for a weekend full of panels, workshops, and networking events for women at all stages of their writing careers. We hosted a luncheon featuring former New York Times Executive Editor Jill Abramson and Director of the Tow Center for Journalism, Emily Bell. It went so well that we signed on as lead sponsors of the next one.
