Awesome Without Borders

In early 2013, theHF fell in love with its ideological counterpart, the Awesome Foundation.

The Awesome Foundation chapters distributes a series of monthly $1,000 grants to projects and their creators. The chapters are autonomous and organized by the trustees around geographic areas or topics of interest. The money is pooled together from self-organizing “micro-trustees” and given upfront in cash or check to advance more awesome in the universe. The chapters provide these no strings attached grants and claims no ownership over the projects it supports. It is, in the words of one of our trustees, a micro-genius grant for flashes of micro-brilliance. To date, 106 chapters have been established in over 25 countries with over $1.2M projects funded.

It was too good to be true! We wanted a chapter! So, Awesome Without Borders was born. Once we saw the power of forwarding awesomeness in the universe, we decided to fund one grantee each week. We are now two years in and, must say, we’ve funded some pretty spectacular things (check out our latest underneath General Guidelines below)!

Projects Funded

Interested? Here are our General Guidelines:

AWB does not award grants for salaries, travel expenses, or religious-affiliated projects, and usually declines grant requests from large, well-established non-profits and for-profit projects. If $1,000 is not a significant part of your (hopefully sustainable) budget, make sure to tell us, specifically, what $1,000 will buy.

Ready to apply? Let’s get weird. (And don't forget to check out the projects we've funded below!)
