Meet our Grantees
Time Banks Network
Because we have developed a special expertise in working with wealthy people, we are also interested in creating prosperity for all, and we know that abundance and true wealth come in many forms other than what's commonly called "money”. What's used as "currency" differs from country to country, culture to culture. Shells, stones, feathers, gold, food, animals - each is "money" to someone (or has been). Time Banks explore the use of reciprocity as an alternate form of currency.
This seems to make communities stronger in many ways. At its most basic level, Time Banking is simply about spending an hour doing something for somebody in your community. That hour goes into the Time Bank as a Time Dollar. Then you have a Time Dollar to spend on having someone provide something to you. It's a simple idea, but it has powerful ripple effects in building community connections.

We heard about Time Banks from one of the organization's largest donors and volunteers, with whom we worked on other not-for-profit projects. We therefore had confidence in the management. Supporting visionary leadership, collaborating with other major donors, giving people a way to create greater prosperity for themselves, building stronger communities, investing in a long-shot for radical social transformation - this grant was a "greatest hits" of our values.
