StoryCorps

We believe in the power of stories. That’s why we fund journalism, and the stories of individual philanthropists (Thrillionaires), and coaching, which is all about people writing the next chapters of their own lives.

Story Corps is a way of combining many of the best qualities of journalism, coaching, and philanthropy.

StoryCorps is a national project to instruct and inspire people to record one another's stories in sound. StoryCorps is modeled—in spirit and in scope—after the Works Progress Administration (WPA) of the 1930s, through which oral history interviews with everyday Americans across the country were recorded. These recordings remain the single most important collection of American voices gathered to date.  The HF was an early funder of StoryCorps, and has continued to give grants as the project has expanded with mobile and satellite booths.

Every time a story is recorded, the speaker is given dignity, an opportunity for reflection, and a kind of immortality, and history is given a witness.

Please think about whose stories YOU know that need to be told.
