Meet our Grantees
Sons of Llawla
Journalism and global philanthropy meet in this investment in people and their stories.
This documentary film is the story of two brothers who carry the burden of an entire village’s future on their young shoulders. And this grant is the story of the filmmaker who is still carrying the burden of getting the brothers’ and the village’s story out to the world.
Barry Simmons learned of this poignant human drama when he was a television journalist at WTVF-TV (CBS, Nashville, where HF Founder Ruth Ann Harnisch worked from 1973-1988). Barry eventually left his job to concentrate on documenting and disseminating the most compelling story he’d ever encountered.
We know that storytelling moves hearts and minds, and we believe this film can create new opportunities for international understanding and philanthropic investment, as well as inspiring millions of people to pursue their dreams of fulfilling their life purpose no matter what.
We think a grant to help this film get made and seen is better than a grant to the clinic itself, because it will be a perpetual fundraising and friendraising vehicle.
