We like showing you the roots of a donation – this might give you ideas about how to grow your own! This was a surprise request. Sometimes professional development people (aka fundraisers) will move from one job to another, taking relationships with them. Sometimes fundraisers wear more than one hat. Your client could be fundraising. Your lawyer may be fundraising. In this case, a development officer for a nonprofit we were supporting asked for the opportunity to tell about another cause.
It was this: the purchase and preservation of magnificent land in New York state, devoted to a place of wisdom, peace, and contemplation. We gave during the crucial initial phase of fundraising, when it was simply known as the Rigpa Center.
Now it is known as the Tenzin Gyatso Institute. Do you know who that is? Neither did we. Now we do: the Dalai Lama. He is the 14th Dalai Lama (“lama” means “teacher”) and is often referred to as “His Holiness Tenzin Gyatso, the Dalai Lama of Tibet.” Now you know, too.
