How will journalism survive the economic challenges, technology advances, and ever-changing audiences? Perhaps part of the answer is the hyper-local news site. Oakland Local is one of those small start-ups with a great pedigree. A grantee of the J-Lab of American University with funds provided by the Knight Foundation, Oakland Local impressed us with their broad support from other foundations and local enterprises. This is a one-time grant to help a new enterprise as it becomes self-sustaining.
