How to apply

If you want a grant from The Harnisch Foundation, this is the first step.

The electronic Letter of Inquiry must be submitted by someone officially representing the requesting organization. If the request meets the Foundation's priorities and interests, we'll tell you how to submit a formal application. Please note: the only way to submit a Grant Application is after your Letter of Inquiry has been approved. It's a two-step process. No exceptions.

If you are seeking funding for a journalism project, in response to our recent grants to Kennesaw State University's Center for Sustainable Journalism and Baruch College's Department of Journalism Program, please read this first.

Submit your Letter of Inquiry now

If you are unable to submit this form electronically, you can mail a hardcopy to:
The Harnisch Foundation
ATTN: Jennifer Raymond, Grants Manager
350 Park Ave., 30th Floor
New York, NY 10022

We do not accept faxes of the Letter of Inquiry or Grant Application.

Grants are made two times a year, in April and October. This is a change for 2010.

Deadlines for submitting your Letter of Inquiry (and if approved, Grant Application) are:

March 12, 2010 for Letter of Inquiry
April 9, 2010 for Grant Application

September 10, 2010 for Letter of Inquiry
October 8, 2010 for Grant Application

In order for us to respond to your Letter of Inquiry in a timely manner, it must be submitted by the deadlines listed above.  The contact listed on the Letter of Inquiry will be notified if we will invite a formal Grant Application.  If you do not hear back from us within 2 weeks of submitting your LOI, please contact info@thehf.org to inquire on the status of your inquiry.  We will send instructions regarding the Grant Application in a separate email.
